3 million Russian tourists expected in Egypt

More Russian tourists will return to Egypt after Moscow signed a protocol on December 15 lifting the ban on direct flights to Egypt.

Russia Today (RT) channel displayed an infographic showing that around 3.16 million Russian tourists will visit Egypt, especially Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh, as a result of lifting the ban on direct flights from Russia to Egypt.

According to the infographic, 300,000 Russian tourists will bring $3.5 billion of tourism revenues in the first seven months of 2018.

Egypt’s minister of aviation has signed an aviation security protocol with his Russian counterpart, Maxim Sokolov, for the resumption of direct flights between both countries.

According to RT, the direct flights will head to Cairo International Airport at first and then gradually to the airports of Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada.

Russia banned all flights to Egypt since October 2015, after the crash of a Russian passenger jet in Sinai, which killed all 224 people on board, causing a blow to Egypt’s tourism industry.
