Egypt to host the 2014 World Summit on the Information Society in Sharm El Sheikh

Egypt has announced plans to host the World Summit on Information Society in the last quarter of 2014 in Sharm al-Sheikh.
The summit, organized by the International Telecommunication Union, will be attended by information technology specialists from several countries, as well as specialized local companies.
The Ministry of Communications has already started preparations for the summit to portray Egypt as a reference for the international community in this field.
Egypt has hosted several conferences in cooperation with the International Telecommunication Union over the past years, such as the World Economic Forum in 2008, the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in 2009, the China-Africa summit in 2009 and the Telecom Africa Conference in 1994, 2004 and 2008.
The World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC), which was scheduled to be held in Egypt this April, will take place at another location following a government decision with the International Telecommunication Union, based on concerns about the coinciding parliamentary and presidential elections.
