Race for like & Big Pink Party Weekender 2013

Friday 6th December and Saturday 7th December 2013 saw the third annual Race for Life in Sharm El Sheikh. Hosted by some of the largest companies in Sharm; Soho Square, Hard Rock Cafe, Rixos Hotels and Jaz Mirabel Hotels, they all came together to support Lisa Hartley and Teresa Tickners in their vision to organise the largest Race for Life to date.

The event was spread across two days. The weekend started with the infamous 5k Race for Life  along Nabq Bay’s stunning beach promendade, from Rixos Hotel to Jaz Mirabel Hotel. Both hotels provided fantastic hospitality, decorations, support and service for the start and finish line of the race.

After the Race all the participants were invited to hop on the shuttle bus provided by Soho Square, to Hard Rock Café to continue the fund raising party. Hard Rock donated all of the takings to the Race For Life funds and put on a marvellous spread of food and drinks. Whist the particpants enjoyed the refreshments they treated to some entertainment by Soho Studio performers.

Once the party was in full swing and everyone was refreshed and refuelled, Lisa took to the mic to start the bidding for the largest charity auction in Sharm. Over fifty donators around Sharm had provideed magnificent prizes for the auction. With Lisa’s expert MC skills the money started to pour in as guests and participants started to vie for prizes and out bid each other.  The grande finale of the night was a surprise performance from X Factor’s Kitty Brucknell which left everyone in a great mood for the second day of the Race for Life.

The second day’s evening entertainment for the Race for Life charity event was hosted at Soho Square’s main stage. To kick off the night the organisers started with ‘THE BIG SWITCH ON. X Factor celebrity Kitty Brucknell turned on the Christmas lights which were followed by a fantastic firework display.

The evening continued with the main charity fund raiser; a fantastic concert.  X Factors Kitty Brucknell and her dancers took to the stage to put on a specially prepared concert for RACE FOR LIFE, singing some top tunes and classic ballads. Everyone had a great time and it was the perfect close to a perfect weekend.

A big thank you goes out to every single person who contributed to the total, as none of this would have been possible without your co-operation, dedication and teamwork. Sharm el Sheikh should feel extremely proud to have raised such an amount to go towards such a good cause.

Cancer has unfortunately touched so many people around us and in the world.  If we keep raising money, we hope that one day a cure may be found. We all hope our money will go to make someone’s life a little bit more comfortable and ease the pain of being diagnosed with cancer.

Cancer is the worlds biggest and most deadly disease.

  • An estimated 12.7 million new cancer cases were diagnosed worldwide in 2008.
  • Lung, female breast, colorectal and stomach cancers were the most commonly diagnosed cancers, accounting for more than 40% of all cases.
  • Worldwide, an estimated 7.6 million deaths from cancer occurred in 2008.
  • There are over 200 different types of cancer.
  • In Egypt the most common types of cancer is bladder cancer for males and breast cancer for females.

Cairo Children’s Hospital 57357:

CCHE 57357 is based at 1 Seket Al-Emam Street – El-Madbah El-Kadeem Yard – El-Saida Zenab in Cairo. The hospital is named after their first bank account number which was 57357.  This number is easily remembered in both Arabic and English, also the numbers 3 and 7 have some religious significance.

Cairo Children’s Hospital 57357 vision is “challenging the frontiers of cure for our kids with cancer by providing the highest standards of care while being an inspiring model of charity.”

Their Mission is to “cure kids with cancer for free regardless of race, creed, or ability to pay with Justice in Quality.”

CCHE was  honored by two awards from the Middle East Hospital Build Exhibition 2010 in recognition of its efforts to be a world class leader in healthcare. CCHE received Best Physical Environment Award and Honorable Mention for the Best Sustainable Hospital.
