Cairo University hosts international physiotherapy and tourism conference in Sharm

Organisers hope the two-day conference will promote tourism and physiotherapy in Egypt

The resort town of Sharm El-Sheikh will host an international conference on tourism and physiotherapy on Thursday and Friday. The conference, which is being organised by Cairo University, will be attended by MPs affiliated with parliament’s tourism committee, as well as local and foreign travel agents.

Sahar Talaat, head of parliament’s tourism committee, told reporters on Wednesday that the conference will be a golden opportunity for Sharm El-Sheikh to regain its status as the Middle East’s number one beach resort.

Talaat said Sharm El-Sheikh has already begun regaining its pre-2015 tourist traffic.

Alaa Balbaa, head of the university’s Faculty of Physiotherapy, also told reporters that a large number of physiotherapists from America and Europe will participate in the conference.

“We aim to use this conference to promote Sharm El-Sheikh as a prestigious world tourist destination and also promote Egypt as the Middle East’s centre of physiotherapy,” said Balbaa.

Balbaa said the conference will be opened by the president of Cairo University, Gaber Nasser.

Talaat said the deadly crash of a Russian passenger plane in Sinai in October 2015 has negatively affected Sharm El-Sheikh and other Red Sea tourist resorts in Egypt.

“But we hope that tomorrow’s conference and others more to come will help the city compensate its losses and become again a top destination on the world’s tourist map,” said Talaat.
