Easter Holidays Attract More Tourists to Red Sea Resorts
Egypt’s Red Sea cities and resorts in South Sinai have witnessed a significant boost in the influx of tourists during Easter holidays.
Lebanese and Jordanian tourists are representing the vast majority of visitors in Sharm Al-Shiekh.
The occupancy rates in several hotels in Sharm Al-Sheikh have exceeded 55 percent. A high rate of visitors include Egyptians as well.
Tour companies and hotels have organised celebrations and entertainment programs to attract more tourists.
Over the past few weeks, the tourism sector in Egypt has shown signs of recovery. One of the largest travel companies in Italy is now organizing four weekly flights to Sharm Al-Sheikh from Italian cities of Naples and Bari.
In March, Israel warned its citizens of traveling to Egypt and urged those who are currently in Egypt to immediately leave citing security concerns. Despite warnings, the influx of Israeli tourists to South Sinai had increased before Israel closed its Taba border crossing to the Peninsula of Sinai.
The tourism sector in Egypt has suffered since the 25 January 2011 uprising. The status has further complicated after a Russian Plane that took off from Sharm Al-Sheikh airport had crashed, killing all 224 on board. As a result of the crash, Russia has suspended its flights to Egypt.
