Weaning Your Baby

On average a baby can survive on milk alone until they are 6 months old.
Sometimes at the suggestion of a doctor or clinic you can introduce solids before this.

The first ” weaning foods” should be bland, for example ; baby rice, puree fruit, such as apple, sweet potato or carrot. No sugar or salt should be added.
Baby rice can be mixed with the babies normal milk to make a smooth consistancy which should not be too runny.Alternatively cooled boiled water can be used.

All feeding equipment used for the baby should be sterilized before use.

First of all you should try to introduce this before a milk feed , preferably at the lunch time feed.
As the baby gets used to solid foods you can start to introduce more frequently & more variety & quantity.

When you first start to introduce other foods, normally it can take some time for the baby to get used to the new foods, taste & consistancy as this is a new step for them. They will begin to learn how to chew different textures & flavors, some of course they will not like to start with.

So once again as a new mother you will have to have lots of patience, as this will obviously help the baby to enjoy the new introduced foods more quickly & thus help them grow & thrive.

And a contented baby makes a contented mother.
