Sleep patterns for newborn babies

For first time mum’s motherhood can be very daunting. One minute you are pregnant thenext minute you are in charge of a live baby who is solely dependant upon you.
A newborn baby can sometimes take time to settle into a routine and you as a mother must be patient, calm & relaxed whenever possible.
A baby will settle much quicker if the mother is calm & relaxed herself!!
First of all the baby should be fed sufficiently, winded, then a warm bath( but not directly after it’s feed). The baby should be placed in his/her own cot/moses basket in a cool darken room. Soft gentle calming music can aid a baby’s sleep.
There can be many reasons why a baby can have disturbed sleep patterns; underfed, teething, tummy problems, unwell or just that they don’t like sleeping alot!
As a mother you will slowly learn from your baby what is making them unhappy. Obvious advice if your baby continues to have disturbed sleep patterns is to first of all have them checked by a doctor or clinic. If there are no underlining problems then simple advice such as all of the above plus gentle massage, tummy rubbing & having lots of patience.
Giving your baby lots of stimualation, fresh air, making sure that they are not hungry or thirsty, these will all help aid your baby’s sleep.
And finally remember that every baby/child is different & a mother’s intuition goes along way.
