What You Can Expect

Learn how Egyptian farmers live off the land despite the harsh desert landscapes

Leave your Sharm el Sheikh hotel at around 8am and head into Egypt’s desert farmlands in an air-conditioned minivan. As you travel, hear about some of the farming methods used by the locals to survive in the harsh environment.
After around 90 minutes, arrive at Wadi Murrah and greet the friendly farmer who is your host for the day. Sit down to share some refreshing Bedouin tea and listen as your guide gives you an absorbing overview of the farmstead and the ways you can help out.
Then, buckle down and help with some simple tasks around the farm. Jobs may include such things as putting up a fence or planting, and won’t be too onerous. Work as a team with your group and feel free to make suggestions — your farmer will be happy to hear your tips and offer their own!
After a while, your farmer will cook a tasty lunch over an open fire, using farm produce. Learn how to make Bedouin flatbread and bake it over hot coals as part of the feast. Then, savor the traditional sharing dishes that make up a Bedouin meal, such as fresh salads and hummus.
Afterward, join your guide on a short trek to discover the area’s native flora. As they point out indigenous plants and herbs, discover how they’re used in local cooking and medicines. You’ll gain a fascinating insight into how Egyptians have lived off the land here for centuries.
Before you return to Sharm el Sheikh, enjoy a last cup of tea with your farmer and say your goodbyes. Your tour finishes with a hotel drop-off in the early evening.
