Turkish tourists in Sharm El-Sheikh increased five times in 2023: Ambassador

Turkish tourists in Sharm El-Sheikh increased at least five times in 2023 compared to last year, said the new Turkish Ambassador to Cairo, Salih Mutlu Sen, citing Turkish tourism agencies based in Sharm El-Sheikh.

In a tweet on his official Twitter account in Arabic and Turkish, Mutlu Sen attributed this increase to implementing recent regulations allowing Turkish tourists to obtain visas upon arrival to Egypt.

In March, Egypt implemented new measures allowing tourists from Turkey and several countries to obtain a visa upon arrival as part of an effort to boost tourism.

The Turkish ambassador also projected an increase in the number of Turkish tourists visiting Cairo in the upcoming months.

He noted that the number of Egyptian tourists travelling to Turkey last year broke previous records.

Within five years, Mutlu Sen added, the number of Egyptian tourists visiting Turkey could reach one million.

In April, Turkish Airlines increased the number of flights to Egypt to 50 per week to bring more Turks to Egypt.

On Tuesday, Egypt and Turkey upgraded diplomatic relations between the two countries to the level of ambassadors, as Cairo and Ankara continue taking steps to end a 10-year political rift.

Cairo appointed Amr El-Hamamy as Egyptian ambassador to Turkey and Ankara appointed Salih Mutlu Sen as Turkish ambassador to Egypt.
