Brussels Airlines Returns to Sharm-el-Sheikh
Brussels Airlines, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, is set to relaunch its service to Sharm-el-Sheikh, the popular Egyptian resort city, during the upcoming winter season. This move marks the airline’s second destination in Egypt, following its flights to Hurghada. The service will commence on October 27, 2023, with a weekly flight operating every Friday between Brussels-Zaventem Airport and Sharm-el-Sheikh Airport.
The flights will be operated by an Airbus A320 aircraft, featuring 180 seats, providing passengers with a comfortable travel experience. Departing from Brussels-Zaventem at 7:10 a.m., the flight is scheduled to arrive in Sharm-el-Sheikh at 1:00 p.m. The return leg will depart from the shores of the Red Sea at 2:00 p.m. and land back in Brussels at 6:15 p.m.
Brussels Airlines will face direct competition from TUI Fly Belgium on this route, which was initially inaugurated in 2018 but was subsequently suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, the route is also offered on a code-share basis via Zurich with Edelweiss Air, as well as via Cairo with EgyptAir, Brussels Airlines’ partner in the Star Alliance network.
The relaunch of the Brussels-Sharm-el-Sheikh service reflects the airline’s confidence in the recovery of the travel industry and the demand for leisure destinations. As the winter season approaches, the Lufthansa Group subsidiary aims to cater to the growing number of travelers seeking a sun-filled vacation in Egypt’s beautiful coastal region. The addition of this route further expands the airline’s network in Africa enhancing its offerings to customers.
Brussels Airlines had previously resumed its flights to Hurghada airport in winter 2021, becoming its only other direct destination in Egypt. With the reintroduction of flights to Sharm-el-Sheikh, the airline is reaffirming its commitment to serving popular Egyptian destinations and meeting the needs of its passengers.
