Egypt is about to launch its first national online platform for medical tourists

According to the Chairman of Egypt’s General Authority for Healthcare (GAH), Ahmed El-Sobky, Egypt is set to launch its first national electronic platform for medical tourists. El-Sobky made this announcement during the second preparatory conference for the Egypt Health Tourism (EHT) International Conference, which was attended by top officials and healthcare investors from across the country.

El-Sobky highlighted the immense potential of the medical tourism market, which is estimated to be worth over $115 billion annually, with an expected annual growth rate of more than 12.5 percent. He believes that by 2030, the market could reach over $346 billion annually.

The upcoming EHT conference in November in Sharm El-Sheikh, South Sinai, is seen as a crucial opportunity to form strategic partnerships with major international medical insurance companies and medical travel agencies. It also serves as a platform to promote Egypt’s nationally and internationally-accredited hospitals, which currently number 127.

Egypt aims to become a major hub for medical tourism.

The chairman expressed confidence that with strong political support and abundant resources, Egypt has all the necessary components to become a leading hub for medical tourism in Africa and the Middle East, thereby boosting the country’s economy.

Moreover, the conference will foster collaborations between public and private hospitals, the armed forces, and other sectors. El-Sobky emphasized the important role of medical insurance companies in further developing medical tourism in Egypt’s high-quality healthcare facilities.

Last year, Egypt was ranked fourth regionally and 26th worldwide in the Medical Tourism Index, with highly-qualified doctors, excellent hospitals, and historical tourist attractions that attract visitors. However, unified treatment costs for medical tourists were identified as an area for improvement.

Globally, the top five countries for medical tourism were Canada, Singapore, Japan, Spain, and the UK.
